University Libraries Colloquium

University Libraries Colloquium In-Person

April Hobbs, Graduate Student Outreach Librarian, will present "Building a Culture of Preparedness: Librarians Lead in Times of Crisis." Libraries’ information and community services take on heightened importance during emergencies and natural disasters. Following devastating flooding/hurricanes in the south, April and a team of researchers undertook three studies to investigate emergency preparedness, communication, and health resources. In this presentation, you will learn about their findings which 1) May help libraries plan for disasters, 2) Can help build leadership skills and competencies within staff, and 3) Highlight access and literacy deficiencies in order to better inform resource offerings. You will also learn how the team is gathering resources to help build a “culture of preparedness” and what future research is being planned.
